Rejoice, overcommitters! If you’re stuck in a cycle of saying “yes” to too much, this worksheet may help you better distribute your commitments over time so you minimize the risk of burnout and overwhelm that is usually the signature state of overcommitters. And, you know, it may actually help you stay flexible enough to live a little.
Use this worksheet to track and schedule commitments such as:
- work projects
- social engagements
- travel
- time you need to recharge and take care of yourself
- dedicated time with your spouse and family
- time needed to take care of your home
- hobbies
- … and anything else that is an important part of your life
The first Availability Planner published on The Lucubrators simply asked you to mark off the hours for which you have committed to something. This second iteration improves on the first version by encouraging you to minimize commitments and distinguishing between internal and external pressures, all while helping you track how much time you have left over to take on new opportunities.
Remember: you always have options, even if you say no to something or delay it, and you can distribute things in time in a way that works for you. And the things you promise yourself are just as important as the things you promise other people.
