Came across this shit on some cool site (definitely not imgur.com). It’s a map of all the best movies, which is something that is endlessly disputable and war-instigating. Check it out!
I never would’ve known what “The General” was if I hadn’t woken up at midnight in Las Vegas one day (it’s not as epic a tale as you might think) and watched a Buster Keaton movie on Turner Classic Movies. The one I watched was “Sherlock Jr.” and it was baller and silent. But apparently “The General” is like the best comedy ever made. Probably should watch it at some point.
A random blurb about Buster Keaton: there’s a scene in which he falls off a train, which, of course, since it was like the 20s and special effects consisted of whatever physical objects existed in the world, was real. He apparently really hurt himself on that scene, but, being a total boss, just walked it off. Years later, he went in for some check-up at the doctor and got an X-ray, and the doctor asked him when he’d broken his neck.
Buster was all, “Uh, I didn’t break my neck,” but the doc said that the neck had clearly healed after being broken. So this dude just shrugged off an injury that can paralyze ordinary people. This was the same guy who was willing to risk life and limb for physical comedy even into his 60s. Major props.
Oh, and also WALL-E’s on the list.
FIN.
