Running 2 miles in about 17:45, which isn’t awesome but I’ll take it! Listening to The Clash definitely makes it easier. Something about The Guns of Brixton makes you want to sprint down the street…
“When they kick out your front door
How you gonna come?
With your hands on your head
Or on the trigger of your gun?”
I don’t have a gun, but still…
A cool lyric I found in “One More Time” (off Sandinista!) is “You don’t need no silicone to calculate poverty.” Weird to hear Brits talk about the Watts Riots, but it’s a nice phrase. Nice and disconcerting anyway. Oh wait, was I talking about running? Ehhh…
In other news, finished reading Trainspotting for the second time. Irvine Welsh is a boss and Trainspotting is a great book, even though I like Glue better (less drugs, more story). Just started the sequel to Trainspotting (yeah, there’s a sequel) called Porno. Sick Boy (one of the characters) tries to make porn or something. It has good reviews on Amazon, but you probably need to like Trainspotting if you’re going to like the sequel.
Seems like I’m on a UK binge, book and music-wise. What the hell is the UK anyway? Apparently just a term to cram England, Wales, Northern Ireland, and Scotland together. Great Britain, on the other hand, refers only to England (Britain), Scotland, and Wales. Seems like a tangled knot of culture and laws from this side of the pond.
Oh well, keep on running!
“Ohh, ohh, the guns of Brixton…”
